Changes in Profiling Since 9/11 In a New York Times article, appearing one week after the horror of 9/11 in America, a Muslim woman put her dilemma this way, I am so used to thinking of myself as a New Yorker, that it took me a few days to begin to see myself as a stranger might: a Muslim woman, an outsider, perhaps an enemy of the city (Telhami, p.14). She was so used to viewing herself as a lawyer, a wife, a sister, and a friend that it never occurred to her the wrath that might befall such a woman as she. However, it occurred to the majority of the rest of America. Unfortunately, the wheels of discrimination were already in place and it did not take much to roll its mighty chariot forward. In the aftermath of 9/11 and with the increased tension in the Middle East, the United States citizens of Arab descent have endured a growing hatred toward their ethnicity, culture, and religion.
